View Full Version : speed control feedback
Looking into the market of getting a new speedo. Back in the day i had a novak cyclone and didnt like it. Ended up with a V6 which I thought was a far superior speedo. Now, 5 years later im looking into these models. Let me know which ones you have and if you have had problems with them and how they compare to your other speedos.
1) Lrp v7.1
2) Lrp Quantum competition
3) Novak Gt7
im looking into the quantum and the gt7 but Im used to the lrp limiter system. Im ready for your thoughts. feel free to insight me.
I have a GT7 and a 7.1 I prefer the GT7 for onroad but dont notice any real difference between the two offroad.
what is it you like better about your gt7? and are you using a stock profile or have you manually adjusted it to your offroading needs?
messed my first post, corrected now.
For onroad the GT has more punch and response for me. I use different profiles depending on the car, motor etc. I played with the custom profiles but found that pre programmed ones give all the variety I need at this point.

I've had the 7.1 and the LRP SR. I've only used the 7.1 for offroad, it was smooth. I used both for Onroad, and I like the LRP SR by far, the punch is incredible. Im not sure how the punch would work for offroad.

out of that list, I would go 7.1

2) Lrp Quantum competition
Because I still don't understand why Novak designed another speedcontrol that requires an external cap, much less the size of the cap that you have to run on the GT7.
well, thx guys. I had the v6 and really really wanted the quantum competition. I could have went with the 7.1 and if it comes down to it I may just buy one of those too. Not any of the hobby shops around here had the quantum competition though  sooo I opted for the gt7. Cgr has owned both of the speedos and likes his gt7 better and also A friend of mine here in okc and prlly the most notable opinion that I personally know told me he took his v7.1 out of his 4 wheel and put in a gt7 and was just throttled by how smooth and nice it was to drive. David Joor, you know who Glen Bean is right? He was my source and since Ive known him for years and he is a great talent I took his advice. Ill let you all know in a little while how nice this is compared to the other speedos.
also, I have a place to mount the darn switch without glue or servo tape that comes unstuck. I think that was the BIG one lol:p

No doubt the GT7 has a great stepping system, but the huge cap is what turns me off.
But don't LRP just sell you the cap as an optional extra and charge an exorbitant fee for it?
I'm not sure but I don't think it would hurt the GT7 running without the cap any more than it hurts the lrp.
Or does the lrp include a smaller internal capacitior like the v6 used to?
A question to anybody with a tekin G9.
I noticed a while back that my tekin has far more deadband than my other speedos (tried resetting it but didn't cure it.)
Is this a normal characteristic for this speedo or is mine on the way out?
Seems to be fine otherwise, it just makes it feel like I'm using a little bit of drag brake when I run it.
David:
Aren't you a Keyence man? Tell us about that one!
What, you don't like that garbage can on the GT7?
Do you still have your list of setup items and what they changed from 3X Development? Could you post it again? I wanted to add the bump in/bump out explaination to it and print it out for reference, again.
thanks
yes I have to admit the capacitor does concern me. For one, the wires coming out of the capacitor are not shunt like. They are just thin wires. Soo when you tin the wires, you cant hardly tell you got anything on them. Soo it makes me worry about whether I got a good solder connection on them when I had to cut the wires and re solder them because they were too long to fit in my car. Secondly, even if I did, how much of a beating is it going to take jumping and crashing and getting hit all the time by other cars. And, will it stay connected? Who knows, I guess Ill just have to put it to the test. I do however like the idea behind the external capacitor.

you have to run the cap on the GT7 no matter what!!! if you dont you will smoke the speed control and Novak wont replace it because you didnt follow their instructions.

I run a cs-rocket max speed controller it's the Bomb, you have to install a cap thow but it's a small one, so i don't care. The best thing about the controller is that it is adjustable, it even has a display on it so you can see what you are doing. You can adjust Torc-limit, auto brake, brake intensitie, throttle profile and it even has an auto start function.

Anyone reading this, do NOT buy Tekin, they are out of business and if you know the owner you would know why. Just my advice.
Personally I do not like your sarcastic posts that could possible lead a reader to a horrible product. You have already gotten under my skin with 3 of your 5 posts. Please use common sense, this is not Techtalk or a playground.

clw - I have never run a Keyance. I have always been 100% novak, but when I tried the Quantum I was sold on how smooth the stepping was and the size.
I will try and locate it, but you should be able to find it at google, do a search for "Internet Archive", enter in the domain name, and one of them actually allows you to go into the site and get it.
Could have sworn I'd seen a Key in one of the first pics posted on this site! Just thought it was your car.
Off to Google....
Thanx

Moved to general discussion
Now that's amazing, how does Internet Archive have enough storage for all websites, ever?
Tanx for the tip

It was a test for a couple of years, I don't think it is running anymore, but I could be wrong.

You said you had a V6 and really lliked it, why not get a v12. I have the v12 and love it. I don't have allot to compare it too just a older novak 610, and super rooster but it is much faster than both. I also love the smal size and how easy it is to set up. It has some really cool features like the torqe limiter. I will stick with gm ESP's after being so impressed with my V12

Sorry I thought he meant GM V6R not lrp v6 my mistake. Either way i would recommend the GM V12.
AssociatedRacer- Definitely smaller though my v12 is plenty small. The SX 9 It is about $40-50 more so I would hope it’s better. I’ve heard off another forum that GM is coming out with SX12 which is supposed to be waterproof
